Plan For Creative Project

Topic

The topic I would like to cover is generative AI. AI has become a new tool that many do not understand and for a lot, it is hard to detect. I would like to spend time writing about the new tool, the problems it can cause, and the good it can do. I would also like to spend time explaining how AI works on a fundamental level so people know how AI is actually working and people don’t view it as some sort of magic, but a simple new form of technology. I essentially want to create a guide or 101 for generative AI.

Importance

AI is one of the newest developments in the tech world. People are making art, songs, and more with the new tool. It could be a threat to many jobs as well as a new barrier for fact-checking in the modern world. Especially since I want to explain the tool to an older audience, doing that explanation now is more important than ever. AI has not become complex or intelligent enough and giving people the tools to point out when it is being used and understand how it works in its rudimentary stages can provide people a lot of useful information to combat misinformation with generative AI. 

Audience and Medium for Audience

I would like my target audience to be 40-50. Gen Xers are typically the oldest generation on social media right now, as Baby Boomers are starting to go away. Many of them are not familiar with AI and how the technology works, and since they are older and less familiar with the technology, they are more susceptible to misinformation and other tricks. Using my project as a guide to educate people on the application, purposes, and processes of generative AI can help older people on the internet not to fall victim to misinformation about important topics. Yes, AI can make funny memes and videos, many of which I personally enjoy, but they are targeted at young people. Older people on the internet are consuming news and basic videos, not abstract memes and post-ironic posting, so the same uses of AI can fall on deaf ears. This is also why I want to use a blog post. Older generations are the ones that are reading on the internet and in print the most, so avoiding social media and other forms of visual social media storytelling and focusing on and describing things in words as easily and comprehensively as possible will be good for this particular audience. It will be effective because I am writing with older people in mind and crafting my blog post to focus on breaking down how AI is used, it will be almost like a users manual and guide for detection.
